The Art Creates Life Institute of Leadership and Cultural Development International Study Program

Art Creates Life travels annually to foreign countries abroad for artistic exchange as well as community service efforts. Our goal is to build Institutes throughout the African Diaspora, developing programming that responds to specific community needs while supporting the children and families in the areas of health care and awareness specifically HIV/AIDS and malaria, nutrition, education, and economic growth and development . We are in the process of scouting locations in Tobago and Bahia.

Art Creates Life Travel 2009

ACL students and staff will travel to Senegal, West Africa as well as Sierra Leone June 22nd - July 1st 2009. In Senegal, we will be housed in the Art Creates Life Institute, West Africa which is located in Petit Mboa Village outside of Dakar. The Institute sleeps 25 people and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean where you can see Goree Island from its shores. The trip will include community service projects as well as artistic exchange through drumming, dance, song, visual art and an arts festival in Thiadaye. Our partner and host Mr. Demba Gaye has made this venture an educational one by sharing the history and authentic culture of Senegalese families throughout the region. He has embraced us as his family and we send a special thanks to him for his incredible hospitality. This will be ACL’s 4th voyage to Senegal and the 1st for Sierra Leone.
