ACL offers adult classes in play development, acting, directing, and producing. These classes take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6p-9p. The classes are 90 minutes and are offered as a six week course.
Acting I Beginners
This class explores the basic elements of character development, improvisation, voice and speech, and movement. The actor will learn how to analyze scripts for meaning using the Stanislovsky method who, what when, and where. He will also learn how to develop and deliver a monologue for stage. Limit 10 per class.
Acting II Intermediate Advanced
This course is offered to experienced actors who are interested in further developing their skills in character development and play analysis. Actors will explore character through monologues and scene work as well as critique. By the end of the six week course, you will have selected two contrasting two minute monologues ready for auditions and perform in an ACL produced showcase. Limit 8 per class.
Lifestudies
Lifestudies is the foundation of ACL’s work. It is the research, exploration, and development of character through real life context. Students will study people of different cultures through breath and movement and incorporate the history and context in which the they live. These lifestudies will culminate into stories of forgotten people whose lives have been affected by issues that plague humanity. Lifestudies will be presented at the end of the course within a setting that celebrates that particular culture, from authentic food and music to dance and multimedia art. This course is designed for individuals and/or groups who are interested in a personal connection to getting involved and using art as a vehicle for change.
